Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at  if you cannot find an answer to your question.

"IT WAS":  Aristotle said, "All men by nature desire to know." It is untrue, but it was true of Aristotle and those fellow travelers -- the "peripatetics" -- who joined him in an institution of "knowing", called the Lyceum. It was a gymnasium he rented, dedicated to "Apollo the Wolf", or Ἀπόλλων Λύκειος.

"IT IS": Today, many schools, especially in France pay tribute to these intellectual Founding Fathers, by calling their schools Academies (in honor of Plato's institution) and Lyceums (in honor of Aristotle)

"IT IS TO COME": The University is come to an end.  Today's so called "academia" is dead. Long live Akademia. In other words, the University is so corrupt that new institutions must arise and replace it. They must allow freedom of inquiry and opinion. "Political correctness" has no place in the pursuit of truth. This Lyceum is a "revival," or perhaps a "Humanistic Renaissance" of Aristotelian ideals and philosophy ... and indeed ... even περιπάτειν (walking) ἐν τω κήπω

Lyceum Reborn follows a program based firmly in classical languages: Ancient Greek and Latin. These are the primary, and fundamental languages of Western Civilization. We do not hate ourselves. We love and nurture ourselves, seeking always εὐδαιμονία (happiness) through ἀρετή (virtuous excellence).

Nor do we  hate our cultural heritage and roots. We love and embrace them, proudly:

  • Western Civilization is the greatest the world has ever seen. It's accomplishments unparalleled.
  • It is  superior to every other civilization.
  • Today Western Civilization  is  hated, rejected, despised and  belittled as the works of "dead, White heterosexual  Males. We do not hate Whites, heterosexuals, or males: neither the living, nor the dead. We wonder why the haters simultaneously want us dead, and put up a "hate has no home here" sign on their lawn.
  • We embrace diversity of thought. Conversely, we oppose censorship, "cancel culture", "social conformity" and every form of tyranny over the mind of man.

Most particularly, we seek to separate ourselves and come out from among the haters, and to bypass the usurpers who occupy what used to be great Universities. Knowledge is too important. It mustn't  be  monopolized and corrupted by a Government Sponsored entity.

So, before we can even get to a discussion of "curriculum," we have to have a conversation about Ancient Greek. More pointedly, we need to have a conversation *in* Ancient Greek.

  1. (Free) You can have it here, by subscribing to our newsletter,  where you will receive an invitation to a free conversation session held every  Saturday at 10:00am Pacific time on Zoom.
  2. You may ask to join our waiting list to be admitted to a live, in-person, or live Zoom-based class either in Classical or Koine; The differences between the two dialects are relatively minor. Koine is a simplified version of Ancient Greek, which was adopted nearly universally throughout the world after Alexander the Great's Conquest.  (This is also the language of  the Bible, and is sometimes called "Biblical Greek, by Christians))
  3. You may purchase videos and books which will help with acquiring Ancient Greek, using natural language acquisition methods, that is to say, by having fun conversations with people who will become fast friends.
  4. You may book private tuition with a masterly διδάσκαλος(teacher).

The average class size at Lyceum Reborn is anticipated to be around  6-10 students, providing a environment conducive to interactive learning and meaningful discussions.

The tuition  at Lyceum Reborn varies depending on the  level and duration.

Entry Level - Free - Get to know members; Begin exposure-based learning of Ancient Greek.

The admission process for Lyceum Reborn is anticipated to be very different from most institutions.  It  is envisioned as a kind of "dance" between an applicant and a senior contributor(s), where both are proposing and counter-proposing a relationship of learning (or reciprocally, of instructing, mentoring, etc.) which fulfills the interests of both parties in a mutually satisfactory manner. All prospective students are encouraged to begin acquainting themselves with members of the Lyceum, by joining their "Exoteric" Conversations, held on Saturday at 10am Pacific time, on Zoom.

Remember that the Lyceum is more of a "club" than a traditional University. You must propose to members a course of study that the club members find useful,  and wish to participate in. All parties need to find satisfaction.

The Lyceum offers "essay style transcripts", in which each instructor provides detailed evaluations of the accomplishments achieved by students.

Ancient Greek. We all converse in Ancient Greek.

Student:Teacher ratios tend to be lower than other institutions, offering a more individualized learning program.

We're not there yet, but let's put it this way. There will not be "multiple-choice" examinations. That leaves:

  1. Oral presentations
  2. Essays
  3. Short answer, with provision made for clarification of questions.
  4. Original research papers
  5. Dissertations
  6. Assessments of preparation for discussion sessions.

I'm sure there are other categories possible. The purpose of assessment is to incentivize  learning.

As Peripatetics, we walk.
